JSC Embamunaigas is implementing projects focused on the treatment, utilization and commercialization of associated petroleum gas and natural gas. These initiatives are aimed at reducing gas flaring, increasing resource utilization, supporting additional oil production and strengthening the reliability of energy supply.
In June 2017, the Company launched an Associated Petroleum Gas (APG) Treatment Unit with an annual capacity of 150 million m³.
The facility was designed to utilize associated gas from the Prorva group of fields in the Zhylyoi district of the Atyrau region.
Sales-grade gas produced by the unit is supplied to the Central Asia–Center main gas pipeline, significantly reducing the need for associated gas flaring at the Prorva fields.
Modern Gas Treatment Technology
The facility uses LO-CAT sulfur recovery technology from Merichem for the treatment of hydrogen sulfide.
The process is designed to convert hydrogen sulfide into elemental commercial sulfur for domestic and international markets. The entire gas treatment cycle is automated and equipped with multiple levels of emergency protection.
Existing APG Treatment Facilities
Similar APG treatment facilities have been successfully operating at the Company’s Vostochny Makat and S. Balgimbayev fields since 2013–2014.

In addition to utilizing associated gas, these facilities support the local population by supplying sales gas at discounted rates to residents of the Isatay, Makat and Kyzylkoga districts of the Atyrau region.
To improve operational efficiency and economic performance, JSC Embamunaigas is implementing pilot projects for the utilization of associated petroleum gas for electricity generation.

The projects involve the use of associated gas to fuel gas-piston and gas-turbine power plants, with the generated electricity used for the Company’s own operational needs.
The implementation of these projects will support additional oil production and improve the reliability of independent power supply for production and social facilities.
Starting in 2025, as part of the Company’s gas commercialization strategy, construction of an integrated APG treatment unit was completed at the Yugo-Vostochnoye Novobogatinskoye field.

The project was implemented with the participation of a private investor. The resulting sales gas is supplied to the Makat–North Caucasus main pipeline system at incentive prices established by the Ministry of Energy of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
Zapadnaya Prorva Gas Development
In 2025, the Company began the first stage of a project for the development of gas deposits at the Zapadnaya Prorva field.
The first stage targets production of up to 100 million m³ of gas per year through an accelerated industrial development schedule.
With attracted investment, the project focuses on the treatment of raw natural gas to commercial standards for subsequent sale through the Central Asia–Center pipeline at the incentive price established by the Government.
S. Nurjanov “Vostochnoye Pole” Field
A separate project was also launched in 2025 at the S. Nurjanov “Vostochnoye Pole” field to utilize up to 70 million m³ of associated gas annually.
The project includes the installation of booster compressor stations to maintain the required technical parameters for sweet, non-sour gas.
The gas is then dehydrated at the first-stage treatment unit before being supplied to the Central Asia–Center pipeline system.
Full-Scale Zapadnaya Prorva Development
As part of Kazakhstan’s program to expand the country’s gas resource base, JSC Embamunaigas is moving toward the full-scale development of the Zapadnaya Prorva gas deposits.
The expanded project targets gas production of up to 860 million m³ per year.
At the current stage, a comprehensive feasibility study has been completed by the AtPF design institute of KMG Engineering LLP.
Building a More Efficient Gas Future
The Company’s gas projects combine associated petroleum gas utilization, gas treatment, electricity generation and natural gas commercialization.
Through these projects, JSC Embamunaigas is developing its gas resource base while improving the utilization of produced gas and supporting the long-term development of its production operations.
