Developing Projects for Greater Efficiency and Sustainable Growth
JSC Embamunaigas implements investment projects aimed at improving production efficiency, increasing the utilization of associated petroleum gas, strengthening energy independence and supporting the long-term development of the Company’s fields.
Prorvinsk Associated Petroleum Gas Treatment Plant
In June 2017, JSC Embamunaigas implemented a major investment project, an associated petroleum gas treatment plant for the Prorvinsk group of fields, with a processing capacity of 150 million m³ of gas per year.
The plant is designed to utilize associated petroleum gas produced at the Prorvinsk group of fields in the Zhylyoi district of the Atyrau region.
Commercial gas produced at the plant is supplied to the Central Asia–Center main gas pipeline, significantly reducing the volume of associated petroleum gas subject to forced combustion at the Prorvinsk group of fields.
Efficient and Automated Gas Treatment
The plant uses Merichem LO-CAT technology, an environmentally friendly gas treatment technology designed for the effective removal of hydrogen sulfide.
The gas treatment process is fully automated and incorporates several levels of emergency protection, supporting safe and reliable plant operation.
The facility produces annually:
- Commercial gas
- 4.1 thousand tons of stable gas condensate
- 2.7 thousand tons of granular sulfur
Expanding Associated Gas Utilization
Similar associated petroleum gas treatment facilities were successfully commissioned at the Vostochny Makat and S. Balgimbayev fields between 2012 and 2013.
These facilities supply natural gas at a discounted price to residents of three districts in the Atyrau region, contributing to the more efficient utilization of associated petroleum gas.
Projects for Electricity Generation from Associated Petroleum Gas
To improve operational efficiency and economic performance, JSC Embamunaigas is implementing pilot projects for the utilization of associated petroleum gas for electricity generation.
The projects are being implemented at:
- Uaz Severny field — OGPD Kaynarmunaygas
- South-West Kamyshitovoe field
- Gran field — OGPD Zhaiykmunaygas
The projects involve the utilization of associated petroleum gas through gas-piston and gas-turbine power plants, with the generated electricity used for the Company’s own production needs.
Supporting Production and Energy Reliability
The implementation of these projects is expected to contribute to additional oil production while increasing the reliability of independent power supply for the Company’s production and social facilities.
Through the development of gas utilization and energy projects, Embamunaigas continues to improve the efficiency of its existing resources and strengthen the operational foundation of its production activities.
